Thanks to two rainouts, May 5 was a quieter-than-normal Tuesday across Major League Baseball. However, there was still plenty of action. The AL Central narrowed, while the Yankees and Rays both continued their now-five-game winning streaks.

Yankees beat Rangers

The Yankees put up six earned runs on Jacob deGrom, as New York (AL) took the first game of their three-game series with the Rangers.

The dagger in this game was a two-run double from Cody Bellinger off Jalen Beeks that allowed the Yankees to go up 6-3. Those runs were charged to deGrom, who struck out seven but conceded home runs to Ryan McMahon & Jazz Chisholm Jr.

After Elmer Rodriguez was unable to finish out five innings for the second time in a week against Texas, the Yankees’ bullpen only allowed one run over 5.1 IP.

Red Sox win tense game

The Red Sox hit three home runs in a 10-3 victory over the Tigers.

Things got tense in the fourth inning. Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu hit back-to-back home runs off Framber Valdez in the fourth inning. Afterwards, Valdez hit Trevor Story with a 94 MPH fastball, which prompted the benches to clear.

Valdez was tossed.

Brayan Bello struck out seven over seven strong innings. He came in out of the bullpen after Jovani Moran opened the game for the Sox.

Rays take second from Blue Jays

Singles from Yandy Diaz and Ben Williamson helped the Rays secure a fifth straight win, as Tampa Bay took a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays had a lead for a healthy chunk of this game. That was thanks to Kazuma Okamoto, who hit his 10th home run of the year in the first, plus a Yohendrick Pinango single in the fifth that gave the Jays a 3-2 lead.

Kevin Gausman (23.5% Whiff%) didn’t have his best outing. Still, he gave up just two earned runs in six innings.

Cubs win another walk-off

For the second straight night, the Cubs walked off the Reds.

Chicago won the game on a Michael Busch single in the 10th inning. It was a big night for Busch, who hit a home run and picked up three total hits.

The Cubs now have a seven-game winning streak.

Royals take fifth straight

Home runs from Isaac Collins and Michael Massey helped propel the Royals to a 5-3 victory over the Guardians.

With that victory, the Royals have moved to a half-game out of first in the AL Central. Cleveland, Detroit, and the White Sox are in a three-way tie presently for the division lead.
