Miami continues to fly under the radar, as the Marlins picked up another victory on June 11 and are now one game under .500. Plus, the Tigers and Mets both picked up wins, as did the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Marlins sweep D-Backs
The Marlins held the Diamondbacks to three hits on June 11, as Miami won 2-0 and completed a series sweep of Arizona.
Small-ball dominated in Miami, as an Xavier Edwards sac fly scored Otto Lopez in the first to give the Marlins the game-winning run. A Jakob Marsee RBI single in the fourth extended the lead to two.
Tyler Phillips, who joined the Marlins’ rotation midseason, tossed another gem. Phillips struck out five over five scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 1.86. Four different relievers (Michael Petersen, Anthony Bender, Calvin Faucher, Pete Fairbanks) finished out the win.
Miami enters the weekend on a five-game winning streak.
Tigers blow out Twins
The Tigers put up seven runs on Zebby Matthews and 11 runs overall to win 11-0 over the Twins.
Detroit hit six home runs on the day, highlighted by Spencer Torkelson‘s 10th home run, a two-run shot off Matthews in the fourth. The Tigers scored at least one run in every inning from the fourth through the eighth.
Keider Montero struck out four over 6.1 scoreless innings.
Mets take finale versus Cardinals
The Mets won 5-4 to salvage one game from their series against the Cardinals in New York.
Five home runs were hit combined between the two teams in the first two frames. But it was Juan Soto‘s solo shot, his 14th of the year, off JoJo Romero to break a 4-4 deadlock in the seventh inning.
The Mets’ bullpen tossed 4.1 scoreless innings after Christian Scott, who recovered well after he gave up four runs in two innings, was removed in the fifth.
