Another week across Major League Baseball wrapped up on May 3. It was a good one for the Cubs, who will enter their upcoming series against the Reds on a winning streak. Plus, the Yankees continued to beat up on division rival Baltimore.

Dodgers take series finale

The Dodgers defeated Dustin May and the Cardinals by a score of 4-1.

Justin Wrobleski continues to get it done, despite very little swing-and-miss. Wrobleksi had a sub-10% swing-and-miss rate, yet had a chase rate of over 30%. That would help explain why the left-hander was able to toss six scoreless innings without a single strikeout.

Freddie Freeman and Hyeseong Kim each had two hits.

Cubs sweep D-Backs

The Cubs took their fifth straight game on May 3, as Chicago won 8-4 to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Five Cubs had two hits in the game. One of those was Michael Busch, who drove in four in the victory.

Matthew Boyd struck out five over six, allowing two earned runs. That performance helped lower his ERA to 6.00, not great by his standards. The left-hander also induced 26 swings on pitches outside of the zone, most on the day by any MLB pitcher.

As for the D-Backs, Merrill Kelly’s early-season struggles continued. Kelly conceded eight hits, three walks, and six earned runs over 4.1 IP.

Reds shutout by Pirates

The Pirates needed just one run on May 3 to beat the Reds. That lone run came off an Oneil Cruz single in the eighth inning.

Braxton Ashcraft struck out six over 7.2 scoreless innings on the day. Gregory Soto finished out the game and picked up the win.

Chase Burns sparkled once more for the Reds. Burns led the league in total swings and misses on the day with 18, part of a seven-strikeout day for the sophomore pitcher.

Yankees blow out O’s

The Yankees won the penultimate game of their series with the Orioles by a score of 11-4.

It was a big day for Jasson Dominguez & Ryan McMahon, both of whom had three hits for the Yanks. Aaron Judge hit his 13th home run of the year.

Trey Gibson, in his MLB debut, was able to get chase but not swing-and-miss. Gibson struck out two over 4.2 IP and gave up two home runs.

Tigers roll against Rangers

The Tigers had a big day on Sunday Night Baseball, as Detroit defeated the Rangers 7-1.

Detroit had a bullpen day, as six pitchers combined to hold Texas to seven hits and one earned run. Brant Hurter, the bulk pitcher, received the win. Kevin McGonigle had two more hits, while Spencer Torkelson hit his sixth home run of 2026.

Jack Leiter (30.2% Whiff%) struck out 10 but gave up five earned runs against the Tigers.
