A couple of smaller trades went down between June 6 and 7. One of those deals featured the Dodgers and Cubs, as relief pitcher Antoine Kelly was traded to the Cubs.
Cubs trade for former top pitching prospect
The Cubs acquired pitcher Antoine Kelly from the Dodgers on June 7 in a trade. Chicago sent cash for the left-handed pitcher.
Kelly, a 2022 Futures Game pitcher, was once a highly-touted prospect who averaged well over a strikeout per inning between High-A and Double-A that year. A former second-round pick who is now 26, Kelly was traded from the Brewers to the Rangers for Matt Bush in August 2022.
Since then, Kelly has bounced between the Rangers, Rockies, and Dodgers’ organizations. He walked 19 over 21 innings but has a fastball that topped out at 99 MPH this season.
Wendzel back in Majors
The Pirates selected Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Indianapolis.
This is Wendzel’s second tour of MLB duty, as he spent a brief time with the Rangers in 2024. Wendzel was a former first-round pick back in 2019. He hit nine home runs with Indianapolis before the promotion.
