Season 3 of MLB The Show 24 meant that cards from the previous seasons, aside from Core cards, were ineligible to be used in Ranked Online play. That doesn’t, however, mean that those cards are unusable forever. Wild Card slots allow Diamond Dynasty players to use cards from past seasons but some work will be required first. Here’s a look at how to unlock Wild Card slots in MLB The Show 24 Diamond Dynasty, plus the best players to use in those slots.

Best Wild Card options for MLB The Show 24 Diamond Dynasty

For Season 3, here’s a look at our picks for the best Wild Card options:

  • 99 OVR Milestone Jimmy Rollins (Season 1 Boss)
  • 99 OVR Hall of Fame Larry Walker (Season 1 Boss)
  • 99 OVR Retro Finest Jorge Posada (Marketplace)
  • 99 OVR Awards Adley Rutschman (Marketplace)
  • 99 OVR Season Awards Ketel Marte (Marketplace)
  • 99 OVR Hyper Eduardo Escobar (Team Affinity 1)
  • 99 OVR Hall of Fame Chipper Jones (Season 2 Boss)
  • 99 OVR Hall of Fame Ken Griffey Jr. (Season 2 Boss)
  • 99 OVR 2024 All-Star Game Juan Soto (Marketplace/All-Star Week Program)
  • 99 OVR Season Awards Francisco Lindor (Season Awards Drop 9/Season 2)
  • 99 OVR Jin Kim Josh Gibson (Marketplace)
  • 95 OVR Captain Carlos Santana (Season 1 Captain)

Now that Season 3 is here, there are a multitude of options to choose from. Yes, the big boys from Season 1 are still plenty valuable. 99 OVR Jimmy Rollins is incredible and is a switch-hitter, while Jorge Posada and Adley Rutschman can deepen lineups (especially since they’re switch-hitters, as well) with ease.

Season 2, though, brought some great options. Chipper Jones was arguably the best third baseman from S2 and would likely be the best at the position should the end-game start today. Juan Soto has a fantastic swing, while Ken Griffey Jr. is…Ken Griffey Jr.

Don’t sleep on Francisco Lindor, either. Lindor has nearly over 100 in all major hitting categories sans Vision, as well as 79 Speed and 95 Fielding.

Requirements for Wild Card in MLB The Show 24

To activate a Wild Card in MLB The Show 24, one must meet several requirements, namely players from past Seasons to use, making an eligible lineup, and having at least one Wild Card slot unlocked.

The Wild Card slot allows Diamond Dynasty players to use cards that don’t meet the requirements for the current season (i.e. S1 card in Season 2, S1 & S2 in Season 3,) in Ranked Online play.

Next, make sure to create a new lineup, either an S3 lineup or a regular lineup. We recommend not making a season-specific lineup, even though any lineup used must have the green box checked above to ensure it’s eligible.

Those who choose ‘Create New Squad’ will simply be able to add past Season cards, up to the number of Wild Card slots unlocked. But for those who select ‘Create new S[X] Squad,’ the game will automatically confirm whether one wants to use an item as a Wild Card if selected.

Make sure to tap RT/R2 in the selection screen to filter through cards from past seasons.

Lastly, Wild Card slots must be unlocked. For S3 players, three can be found in the Season 3 Collection. The fourth will be made available later. However, Sony San Diego confirmed players who unlocked Wild Card slots in Season 2 don’t have to unlock them again for Season 3.

Three Wild Card slots, found at 57,500 XP, 570,000 XP, and 770,000 XP, were available in Season 2 XP Path, while the fourth was in the All-Star Collection.

How many Wild Cards are there?

Four Wild Card slots are available to be used in MLB The Show 24. However, be mindful that each must be unlocked.
