MLB The Show 24: Which Season 1 Cornerstone Captain should you take?

Sony San Diego brought back “power creep” for MLB The Show 24 and Diamond Dynasty. However, those lower-rated cards can get a significant boost thanks to a Cornerstone Captain. But, which Season 1 Cornerstone Captain should you take in MLB The Show 24 Diamond Dynasty? Here’s a look at the four cards, plus our recommendations.

Season 1 Cornerstone Captains in Diamond Dynasty

First off, here’s a look at the stats for each of the four Cornerstone Captains in Season 1 of MLB The Show 24 Diamond Dynasty:

Byron Buxton

Kodai Senga

Nolan Arenado

Greg Maddux

Each Cornerstone Captain boosts a specific type of player. Here’s a look at the boost for each Captain:

Byron Buxton: Boosts hitters with under 60 Vision
Kodai Senga: Boosts pitchers with under 65 BB/9
Nolan Arenado: Boosts hitters with under 45 Speed
Greg Maddux: Can boost hitters with under 70 Power vs. RHP and pitchers with under 75 K/9

Players will get a free Season 1 Cornerstone Captain immediately. Make sure to check the Packs folder. Each of the four will count towards the Season 1 Collection.

Which player should you take?

Right off the bat, the two Cornerstone Captains that will likely provide the most value are Byron Buxton and Kodai Senga.

The Arenado and Maddux Captains boosts are not worth the trouble. Maddux can compromise the power output and pitching prowess, while Arenado’s boost can nuke an outfield given the Speed requirements.

Now, the Buxton Captain boost is likely the best one for the early stage of the meta. However, Senga’s boost will likely have longer-term value.

That is because Senga can boost the stats of relievers, pitchers who traditionally have lower BB/9 but great stuff. Over the next few weeks, more higher-tier hitters will be released that’ll likely render Buxton useless.
