What to Expect from Mets Pitcher Christian Scott

Mets righty Christian Scott was one of the Amazins’ best stories from 2023. Now, he’ll get his first look at the MLB level. Scott will be called up for the Mets’ upcoming series against the Rays after a strong start in Triple-A.

A Look at Scott

The Mets have loved Florida Gators over the years, as indicated by their selections of Pete Alonso (2016) and Brandon Sproat (2022, 2023), the latter was Christian Scott‘s teammate at Florida. Scott was mainly a reliever in college, as Florida had a deep rotation that included Hunter Barco and Tommy Mace.

Scott, though, will become the first Gators pitcher from that 2021 team to make it to the Majors.

Scott raced up the Minors and broke out in 2023 after a standout campaign that saw him strike out 107 over 87.2 IP between High-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. This season with Syracuse (AAA), Scott struck out 36 over 25.1 IP and walked just six.

Scott can get outs with his secondary offerings but the fastball has helped him put it all together.

The 24-year-old’s a different pitcher as compared to his college days. Scott hasn’t thrown his sinker all year to this point and used his four-seamer over 46% of the time in Triple-A. And visually, the carry on Scott’s fastball plays up a bit more than the 15.6” IVB he recorded in 2024.

Scott’s changeup has received rave reviews, and he’s incorporated a low-80s sweeper to complement his harder slider.

Christian Scott is set to pitch on May 4 for the Mets, a game originally scheduled for Luis Severino.

Analysis

The Mets rotation has done well despite losing Kodai Senga before the start of the regular season. Luis Severino has leveraged his sinker more often to great success, while Sean Manaea has 30 strikeouts over 29.1 IP. Jose Butto, meanwhile, has built on his late-season success from 2023.

Now, Scott — arguably the Mets’ best pitching prospect — will get his first crack.

It likely won’t be a long look, given that Tylor Megill is on a rehab assignment. But, the high-octane righty will look to give the Mets’ starting pitchers some relief in a stretch where the Mets play 26 games in 27 days.

Fantasy Outlook

In the interim, Scott’s an interesting spot starter given his high strikeouts in the Minors and the fact he’ll face the Rays on the 4th.

However, Scott will likely not be with New York for long unless an injury strikes.
