2024 MLB Bet Picks for May 2: Best props, odds, more

There are just six MLB games scheduled on May 2, many of which are early games for getaway day. Still, some interesting plays are available on the first Thursday in May. Here are our best MLB bets for May 2, 2024.

Our best bets for May 2

Here’s a look at our best MLB bets for May 2 (odds via BetMGM New York Sportsbook):

  • Ben Brown over 3.5 strikeouts (-165)
  • Giants/Red Sox under 9.5 runs (-120)

Cubs pitcher Ben Brown will face the Mets on May 2, not too far from where he played high school ball in Suffolk County, New York. It’ll be Brown’s fourth start of the year, and Brown’s hit over 3.5 strikeouts in his first three starts in the Majors.

Brown’s been primarily a two-pitch pitcher with the Cubs, as he’s only used his changeup 1.7% of the time. However, his mid-90s fastball plays up thanks to plus extension and his knuckle-curve has a Whiff% north of 40%.

The 24-year-old has an above-average Whiff% of 26.1%.

As for our second pick, the Giants and Red Sox have yet to score more than eight combined runs in a game over the first two games of their three-game series. Boston won both of their first two contests with San Francisco, thanks to fantastic pitching performances from Cooper Criswell and Kutter Crawford.

Kyle Harrison is coming off a strong outing against the Pirates, as he threw six scoreless frames on the 26th. He’ll face Josh Winckowski, who started two games late in April for the Sox and pitched well despite being limited from a pitch count standpoint.
