When is the 2024 MLB Mexico Series?
The 2024 MLB Mexico Series will be held on April 27-28. The two games are scheduled to be played in Mexico City.
This will not be the first time that the league will hold games in Mexico City. Major League Baseball played regular season games in the capital city for the first time in 2023, as the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres played a pair between April 29-30.
Which teams will participate?
MLB confirmed that the Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies will be the two participants. Colorado will host the affair.
This isn’t the first time that the Astros or Rockies will play in the country of Mexico. Houston played two games against the Angels in 2019, and took both games by a combined score of 24-6. Alex Bregman hit three home runs in the series.
Colorado, meanwhile, played a single game in Monterrey in 1999 against the Padres. Mexico native Vinny Castilla played a key role for the Rockies’ win against San Diego, as he recorded four hits in the lone game played between the two squads in Mexico that year.
It’s also rather appropriate that the Rockies — the team that calls high-altitude Denver and Coors Field home — will play a set of games in Mexico City. Mexico City sits at 7,350 feet above sea level, over 2,000 feet than the 5,280 feet above sea level that the city of Denver is situated.
That altitude made a difference in the first two games played in Mexico City, as the Giants and Padres hit a combined 15 home runs.
The two games are set to join a loaded international slate during the 2024 season, which will also include regular-season games in London and South Korea. Additionally, the Rays and Red Sox are scheduled to play preseason games in March 2024, in the Dominican Republic.
