Look, it hasn’t been an easy go of it for the Colorado Rockies in 2024. Colorado owns the league’s worst team ERA (8.04) and opponent’s batting average (.321) — and it’s not particularly close. And, the Rockies have played just three games in Coors Field.
The Rockies will face Zac Gallen and the reigning NL champion Arizona Diamondbacks on April 8. The Diamondbacks have been hitting well, despite early-season struggles from Corbin Carroll. Arizona owns the fourth-best team OPS (.818) in the Majors.
As for our second bet, Blake Snell notched under seven strikeouts just 11 times in 32 games during his second Cy Young season. However, this won’t be an ordinary start for Snell.
This will be Snell’s first start of 2024 after he missed a healthy amount of the spring because he hadn’t signed with San Francisco until March. The expectation is that Snell will be limited to roughly 70-80 pitches in his April 8 outing and he won’t have an easy matchup when it comes to getting strikeouts.
The Nationals, led by lefty killer Lane Thomas, have the fifth-best Whiff% rate (23.0%) in the league as of April 8.
