Several teams received injury scares on May 27. The Rangers saw Nathan Eovaldi exit early with a triceps issue, while former NL MVP Bryce Harper got hit with a pitch from Spencer Strider, causing him to leave.
Harper exits game with elbow injury
The Phillies got a scare on May 27, as star infielder Bryce Harper had to exit the game against the Braves. Harper was hit in the elbow with a Spencer Strider fastball.
Luckily, the Phillies first baseman’s X-rays came back negative, a good sign for Philadelphia.
Eovaldi leaves after two
Texas starter Nathan Eovaldi only lasted two innings on May 27. Eovaldi was pulled with triceps fatigue.
For those wondering, Eovaldi averaged 93.9 MPH with his four-seam on the 27th, not too far off from his season average (94.1).
Rehab assignments
Brewers pitcher Jose Quintana went four innings for Wisconsin (A+) on May 27. Quintana struck out three and gave up three earned runs, as well as six hits. Quintana has been out since mid-May with a shoulder impingement.
Blue Jays reliever Erik Swanson threw a scoreless inning for Buffalo (AAA).
Other injury news
Mets pitcher Sean Manaea is scheduled for live BP on May 29. Manaea’s missed all of 2025 thus far thanks to an oblique injury.
The Rays placed outfielder Jonny DeLuca on the 60-day IL with a shoulder strain that’s kept him out since early April. It allowed the Rays to place Matt Thaiss, acquired on the 27th from the White Sox, on the 40-man roster.
Tigers outfielder Matt Vierling was placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. Vierling only stuck on the MLB roster for 11 plate appearances before going back on the IL, as he missed almost the first two months with a shoulder strain.
The Athletics placed Nick Kurtz, bothered in recent days with a hip issue, on the 10-day IL with a strained left hip flexor.
Korey Lee (White Sox), Victor Vodnik (Rockies), Zach Penrod and Richard Fitts (Red Sox) were activated from the injured list.
