One of the best rookies is done for 2025 — and likely, 2026, as well. Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe will require season-ending elbow surgery, one of several injury notes for June 11. Aside from that, Cole Ragans is back on the IL.
Bailey placed on IL
San Francisco placed Patrick Bailey on the injured list with a neck strain on June 11.
Bailey didn’t play on June 10 thanks to neck spasms and it didn’t improve on the 11th, promting the move. Now, the Giants will be without another regular, as Matt Chapman landed on the IL yesterday with a hand injury.
Jobe done for 2025
The Tigers were dealt a significant blow.
Rookie pitcher Jackson Jobe, who hasn’t pitched since May 28 and was originally diagnosed for a flexor strain, will need Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
Because of the roughly year to year and a half-year recovery needed, it’s possible Jobe won’t pitch again until 2027.
Rehab assignments
Two notable Yankees played for Somerset (AA) on June 11.
Marcus Stroman tossed 3.1 innings for the Patriots, striking out four against Boston’s Double-A affiliate. Giancarlo Stanton also played in the first game, going 1-4.
Tigers right-hander Alex Cobb pitched for Toledo. Cobb threw two innings, striking out two but allowing three walks. For those wondering, Cobb topped out at 94 MPH but sat mostly in the 91-92 MPH range with his fastball.
Ragans back on injured list
Kansas City saw their ace go back on the injured list. Cole Ragans was placed on the IL
The Royals are still waiting on results from the testing Ragans underwent. Thus, no timetable for a return. However, this is the second time Ragans has been on the injured list this season.
Ragans originally went on the IL with a groin injury in May. He made one MLB start in between coming off and going back on.
Other injury news
Kansas City did get some good news. Lucas Erceg returned from the injured list on June 11.
The Rays placed Manuel Rodriguez on the 15-day IL with a right forearm strain. It’s retroactive to June 10.
Minnesota transferred Pablo Lopez to the 60-day IL. It’s a procedural move, as Lopez isn’t expected back until at least early August.
