The Marlins officially lost one of the top prospects for the rest of the 2026 campaign and beyond, as Robby Snelling will need season-ending elbow surgery. The A’s, meanwhile, saw Denzel Clarke suffer a significant setback earlier this week.

Acuna Jr. leaves game

Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. was removed from the team’s game on May 21 due to a left thumb injury.

Manager Walt Weiss indicated after the contest that Acuna Jr. is dealing with a bone bruise.

Clarke dealt setback

A’s outfielder Denzel Clarke suffered a high-grade hamstring strain during his rehab assignment, which was officially cut short on May 21. It occurred on May 19 with Triple-A Las Vegas, per the team.

Clarke was originally on the IL thanks to a bone bruise. He will be re-evaluated after the 2026 All-Star break.

Snelling done for ’26

Marlins pitcher Robby Snelling will undergo Tommy John surgery, ending his 2026 campaign and likely keeping him out longer.

Snelling, one of the Marlins’ top prospects, was summoned to make his MLB debut earlier this month. The left-hander tossed five innings in his lone start on May 8 against the Nationals.

IL moves

The Rockies placed outfielder Brenton Doyle on the 10-day IL with a left oblique contusion.

Braves pitcher Hurston Waldrep was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Other notes

Brewers pitcher Quinn Priester gave up five hits, five earned runs, and three walks over three innings (68 pitches) for Triple-A Nashville. He averaged 92 MPH on his sinker, down nearly two MPH from his 2025 average.

Yankees shortstop Jose Caballero is expected to be activated on May 22 (h/t Daily News). Trent Grisham (knee) did not play for the team on the 21st.
