Thanks to two Blue Jays outfielders, Toronto was able to split its four-game set with the Yankees. It was a nice rebound for the reigning American League champions. But as for another team that made the playoffs last year, the Tigers lost another contest on May 21.

Guardians win sixth straight

Joey Cantillo tossed 5.2 shutout innings for the Guardians, who won 3-1 over the Tigers and swept Detroit on the road.

Daniel Schneemann and Jose Ramirez both drove in runs in the first. Patrick Bailey, acquired from the Giants earlier this month, hit a solo shot in the eighth. It was Bailey’s first home run as a Guardian.

With that win, the Guardians became the third team in the AL to reach 30 wins this season. Cleveland is now three and a half games ahead ot the White Sox. As for the Tigers, it was their sixth straight loss, and they are now 9.5 games back of the division lead.

Blue Jays win two straight

The Blue Jays won their second straight on May 21, as Toronto shut out the Yankees 2-0 to split their series in The Bronx.

Daulton Varsho got the scoring off in the first with a double. George Springer hit his fourth home run of 2026 in the seventh for insurance.

It was a bullpen day for the Blue Jays. Spencer Miles was the bulk man, and he pitched very well. The Jays’ 2025 Rule 5 pick struck out six over 4.1 IP against the Yankees. Carlos Rodon, the Yanks’ starter, struck out seven over five frames.

Braves score nine against Marlins

Spencer Strider struck out nine for the Braves, who won 9-3 over the Marlins.

Atlanta’s offense had a good day against Sandy Alcantara, who surrendered two home runs and six earned runs. Michael Harris II hit two home runs, one off Alcantara and the other off Pete Fairbanks. Mike Yastrzemski hit his third of 2026 in the second.

The Braves’ offense had 13 total hits.
