The starting lineup for the American League is evenly split. Two Orioles, Yankees, Guardians, and Astros are in the starting lineup and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will join them after beating out Ryan Mountcastle (Orioles) for the first base slot.
Five of the top seven American League players in bWAR among positions players were among the first to be named, including Aaron Judge (6.3), the league leader. Judge shook off a cold April to put up mammoth results in May and June, resulting in the former AL MVP leading baseball in home runs (32), RBI (83), and OPS (1.158) as of July 3, 2024.
Judge won his spot in Phase 1 of All-Star voting.
Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan, who will start alongside Judge and Juan Soto in the AL outfield, leads baseball in batting average (.362).
Gunnar Henderson, who leads the Majors in runs scored (74) and blasted 26 home runs in his first 84 games, will also get the start. It’ll be the first All-Star Game for the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year.
Four Royals made the All-Star Game, although Salvy Perez and Bobby Witt Jr. won’t be starters. They’ll be joined by Seth Lugo and Cole Ragans, the latter of whom was traded by the Rangers — the host team of the All-Star Game — to Kansas City last summer.
Four of the five best pitchers in bWAR among all pitchers, including Tyler Anderson, Tarik Skubal, and AL strikeout leader Garrett Crochet, highlight notable American League pitchers.

The All-Star Game will have a Philly theme to it. Three Phillies were named National League starters, and seven overall were initially announced, led by Phase 1 winner Bryce Harper. An eighth, Cristopher Sanchez, was added on July 13.
This will be the first All-Star Game for Alec Bohm and Jurickson Profar.
Bohm is the National League leader in runs batted in (68). The Phillies third baseman benefited from the players hitting ahead of him but he’s done his job and then some. He’s currently the MLB leader in doubles (28).
As for Profar, the 31-year-old looked to be a superstar in the making a decade ago with the Rangers as a top prospect. Although Profar didn’t become what many projected him to be, the 2024 campaign’s been his best as a Major Leaguer. Heading into play on July 3, Profar was tied for seventh in the NL in RBI (55) and the owner of an .855 OPS.
Among notable pitchers, rookie Paul Skenes made the roster, as does NL strikeout leader Tyler Glasnow. NL ERA leader Ranger Suarez and wins leader Chris Sale will also be headed to Texas.
