The Marlins finalized their list of 2025 Spring Training non-roster invites on February 10. It includes several former first-round picks, including catcher Joe Mack, who had a breakout campaign and got back on track after two down seasons at the dish.
This list is heavy on players acquired by Miami over the past year. The Marlins will have several former Padres prospects, including Jakob Marsee, Nathan Martorella, Woo-Suk Go, and Robby Snelling. Go, Marsee, and Martorella were acquired in the Luis Arraez trade, while Miami received Snelling in the Tanner Scott deal.
Snelling is arguably the most notable name, thanks to his past prospect pedigree. The former first-round pick struck out 118 over 103.2 IP in 2023, with a 1.82 ERA. However, Snelling had a ERA north of 5.00 in 2024, giving up more contact and netting less strikeouts.
Marsee had a down 2024 campaign, as well. However, the 23-year-old hit well in Jacksonville (AAA), with a .275/.370/.363 slash line over 22 games.
Given the Marlins front office is led by a former Rays executive, it wasn’t a shock to see Miami land Marsee. He’s a high on-base player, as he walked 98 times in 2023 and 92 times a year later.
There are, however, some notable homegrown talent among the non-roster invitees. Namely, former first-round picks Joe Mack and Jacob Berry.
Mack, a New York high school product, has slowly developed but had easily his best year in 2024. The 22-year-old belted 24 home runs and 54 extra-base hits, in a season where he spent most of it in Pensacola (AA).
Berry, meanwhile, was the sixth-overall pick back in 2022. The former LSU product looked like an elite switch-hitter with the Tigers but has been largely unproductive in pro ball. Last season, Berry posted just a .670 OPS in a season he split between Double and Triple-A.
Other names named to Marlins big league camp on the 10th were Patrick Monteverde, Dale Stanavich, Justin King, Austin Roberts, Ryan Ignoffo, Bennett Hostetler, Robinson Pina, Andrew Pintar, Matt Pushard, Janson Junk, Josh Ekness, Troy Johnston, and Ronny Simon.
Previously, the Marlins confirmed Freddy Tarnok, Albert Almora Jr., Rob Brantly, John Rooney, and Josh Simpson would be in camp as non-roster invitees.
Aside from the Marlins, the Mets & Twins also announced their non-roster invitees on February 10.
