Major League Baseball announced in August 2024 that the Spring Breakout event will return for 2025. The event, which will run for four days in 2025, will look similar to what MLB did this past spring, as teams will be tasked to bring their best prospects for an exhibition showcase event. Here’s an explainer on the Spring Breakout, plus dates and matchups.
What is Spring Breakout?
The MLB Spring Breakout event was introduced in 2024 to showcase the game’s top prospects. Each team will assemble a roster of their best prospects for an exhibition Spring Training game, separate from the traditional Grapefruit and Cactus League.
As such, only rookie-eligible prospects from across the Minor League spectrum will participate.
When will it take place?
The 2025 MLB Spring Breakout games will occur between March 13-16, 2025. All teams will play at least one, while the Nationals and Cubs will play two thanks to the odd numbers of teams in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues.

Who to look out for
Last year’s event saw several high-rated prospects take the stage, including ones now in the Majors. Dylan Crews, Paul Skenes, and Jackson Holliday are among the names who participated in last year’s showcase.
One should expect rosters in 2025. Meaning, big names like Walker Jenkins (Twins), Max Clark (Tigers), Charlie Condon (Rockies), Travis Bazzana (Guardians), and Chase Burns (Reds) could be playing in the 2025 installment.
