With about a month to go before the start of the 2024 college baseball season, several preseason rankings lists have been released. And to little shock, Wake Forest, LSU, and Florida — three teams that dominated the headlines and made it to the College World Series in 2023 — stand out.

A Look at Early 2024 NCAA Baseball Rankings

This month, both Perfect Game and D1Baseball — the latter of which is a content provider for the NCAA — released their preseason rankings for the 2024 NCAA baseball season.

Both outlets have Wake Forest at the top slot, but both differ slightly from that point onward. Perfect Game has Arkansas at #2, with LSU, Florida, and TCU rounding out the top five. D1Baseball, meanwhile, has Florida, Arkansas, LSU, and TCU from 2-5.

Aside from those minor differences, D1Baseball has Northeastern, highlighted by star outfielder and potential 2024 first round pick Mike Sirota, at #23. Perfect Game, on the other hand, has Oklahoma State at #22.

It’s not a shock to see some consensus with Wake Forest. Even though the Demon Deacons lost Brock Wilken and Rhett Lowder, Wake Forest will still have a potent lineup that’s set to include Nick Kurtz, Seaver King, and newcomer Chase Burns on the mound. Burns transferred to Wake Forest after the 2023 campaign that saw him spend much of the year in the Tennessee bullpen.

Florida, meanwhile, will return two-way sensation and 2023 Golden Spikes finalist Jac Caglianone for 2024. The slugger’s been erratic at times on the mound but he does own power stuff and was one of the NCAA’s best collegiate hitters last year.

Defending champion LSU won’t have their two big guns from 2023 back. However, the Tigers still have Tommy White, who’s excelled at the plate in his first two seasons in Baton Rouge.

Meanwhile, on the mound, a staff that includes potential first-rounder Thatcher Hurd, Alabama transfer Luke Holman, and UCLA transfer Gage Jump will look to help LSU go back-to-back in 2024.
