NCAA baseball teams have taken to the field this fall to prep for the upcoming 2024 campaign. But, when exactly can college baseball fans expect to see the next wave of MLB prospects hit the field and begin the 2024 season? Here’s when the 2024 NCAA baseball season will start, plus a look at some opening weekend matchups that we know of so far.

When does college baseball start in 2024?
The opening day of the 2024 NCAA Division 1 baseball regular season is on February 16, 2024.
Be mindful that the beginning of each team in the NCAA baseball season can vary, thanks to weather and/or pending schedule changes. However, teams that have rolled out schedules have indicated that their years will begin on the 16th.
The first weekend of the 2024 NCAA baseball season will include several notable tournaments, including the annual MLB Desert Invitational and the Shriner’s Showdown. Baylor, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas Tech will participate in the tournament at Globe Field in Texas — also the home for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
As far as other notable opening-week matchups going on during the 2024 NCAA baseball season start, Wake Forest, a preseason front-runner, will start at home against Fordham. Arkansas opens up against James Madison at home, while Vanderbilt will take on FAU at home on the 16th.
The Louisiana State Tigers Tigers, the defending NCAA champions, will open up the 2024 campaign at home in Alex Box Stadium for four out-of-conference matchups. LSU will face VMI on February 16 and 18 in the first weekend of the 2024 campaign, and Central Arkansas on the 17th and 19th.
2023 NCAA baseball championship runner-up Florida, meanwhile, will face a Big East school in the St. John’s Red Storm at home for the opening weekend of the 2024 season.
