Fall is just around the corner, meaning MLB Postseason and the 2025 college fall baseball schedule will be here soon. After teams get through their fall scrimmages, though, the look ahead to 2026 will officially begin. And, there’s a lot to be excited about for 2026, thanks to new faces in new places. Here’s a look at when the college baseball will start in 2026, plus released matchups.
What is the start date?
The start date for the 2026 Division I season is February 13, 2026.
This is roughly in line with when the NCAA Division I season has started in past years. Two years ago, the NCAA started off the push to the College World Series on February 16. Last season, it began on February 14.
Known matchups
As of August 2025, schools have not released their full season schedules. However, there is some information regarding what opening weekend will look like when the college baseball will start come 2026.
Oregon State will kick off their year in Arizona at Surprise Stadium. The Beavers will play in a multi-team tournament that will also include Michigan, Arizona, and Stanford.
The Puerto Rico Challenge, which had its inagural run in 2025, will also return in 2026. Much like the aforementioned matchups in Arizona, it’ll run from February 13-16, 2026.
Eight teams will partake in the Puerto Rico Challenge. Those schools are NC State, Wake Forest, Seton Hall, Manhattan, Boston College, Houston, Washington, and Indiana State. Several of those schools are situated in the Northeast, an area where teams typically play down south over the first few weeks of the regular season.
More matchups will be known as the fall progresses. Most schools typically release their 2026 schedules between the September and December before the season.
